Overview of Sarangbang Culture Club

Let us introduce Sarangbang Culture Club which was launched by Seongnam Arts Center as a project to promote culture and art among citizens. The cultural and art club based on voluntary and creative participation of citizens is the leader of the "Seongnam, the city of culture."

Dream of a cultural community in daily life! Sarangbang Culture Club

This project was initiated under the motto, “Citizens build a city.” Under the motto which sets forth the basic direction of policy making and project implementation, a lot of discussions went on with regard to how to engage citizens in building a city and what policies are needed to make it happen. The answer to those questions was found in the cultural clubs of citizens. A consensus was formed that the cultural city of Seongnam should be created out of an organic mechanism involving various cultural clubs of citizens backed up by related policies. The outcome was the “Sarangbang Culture Club” Project.

Wherever in Seongnam, there are cultural clubs.
In those clubs, there is no division between leaders and bystanders.
Everyone becomes a leader as well as a bystander.
People sing for 100 years ahead.
The city of artistic citizens… Seongnam is the home of so many artists and creators and all citizens enjoy the life of culture and art. That’s because our sons and daughters grow up in this city of Sarangbang Culture Club.

Sarangbang Culture Club, a bowl to contain changes
Sarangbang Culture Club is a gathering of valuable culture creators in Seongnam. They have made great contributions to the development of culture and will play even more active roles going forward. In addition, Seongnam Arts Culture will closely collaborate with Sarangbang Culture Club in order to lay the foundation to promote its activities. It’s been six years since Sarangbang Culture Club was launched and, during its short history, it was recognized on several occasions for setting best examples of private-public cooperation, citizens’ voluntary culture and art activities and being one of top ten culture & art trend (“Good art is the way to go.”) It has become the envy of many other local governments because, here, citizens learn, share and volunteer to help based on culture and art, and change society as well as their own lives.
